Emulsion mist extraction on machine tools
This industrial emulsion mist extraction system is designed to solve the problems associated with the dispersion of oily or emulsified mists in the work environment, which can be harmful to the health of operators and the environment.
This important industrial company located in Modena produces hydraulic components for machinery in the agricultural and forestry sector and it contacted us to design and install an extraction system for emulsion mists generated by machine tools in their in-house production department.
How emulsion mists are extracted
The industrial emulsion mists extraction system consists of 14 inlets, each positioned at the same number of machine tools: in this way, the system ensures a precise extraction directly at the sources of mist production. On the suction inlets of four Makino machines, we also placed in-line metallic prefilters, which filter the air from the coarser components of the generated oil mists to prevent premature clogging of the centralized filter unit.
All suction inlets are connected to a centralized system, which conveys emulsion mist-laden air to the Airsol Oil mod. AS8/O filter unit. This unit is able to separate air from mists, effectively removing the emulsion particles present and thus ensuring clean and safe air for the working environment. Filtration takes place through 3 consecutive filtering stages, the clogging status of which can be monitored via a digital pressure gauge fitted on board the Airsol Oil.
The system’s suction is generated by a 22 kW DT centrifugal fan, which provides an adequate air flow to ensure a high and continuous suction capacity. This fan is placed inside a soundproofing box, designed to minimise the noise generated during operation and to keep the working environment compliant with noise safety regulations.
The filtered air is fed into the atmosphere through a Ø 750 mm chimney equipped with a flow equalizer, which allows homogeneous and controlled dispersion of the treated air.
In order to further improve the efficiency of the emulsion mist extraction system, the chimney is equipped with two silencers, to reduce residual sound levels, and a wind-protection terminal, which prevents the entry of air currents that could compromise the flow of the extraction system.
Management of the extraction system
The management of the entire emulsion mist extraction system is centralized in an control panel equipped with an automatic inverter, which adjusts the fan speed according to the system requirements, thereby optimising energy consumption and reducing component wear.
The HMI touch screen panel allows simple and intuitive management of the system, with the possibility of real-time monitoring of operating parameters such as air pressure and fan speed, thus ensuring constant control and easy diagnosis of any faults.
By combining advanced technology and a highly efficient monitoring system, this emulsion mist extraction system is an ideal solution for ensuring a healthier working environment, complying with environmental and safety regulations, and with a reduced energy impact.
