Extraction system on welding robot
With over 40 years of experience in the design and manufacture of industrial extraction systems, GGE is specialized in the development of tailor-made systems for the treatment of fumes, dust and mists in all types of production environments. Our systems meet the technical requirements of the most complex industrial departments, ensuring maximum efficiency, safety and regulatory compliance.
In this case study, we present an extraction system designed to ensure maximum efficiency in capturing and filtering fumes generated by the robotic welding process, installed at one of Italy’s leading forklift truck manufacturers. The focus was to improve the air quality within the department, safeguarding the health of the operators and complying with environmental and safety regulations.
How the extraction system is structured
Welding fumes are extracted directly by the suction hood installed on the welding robot, which follows the movements of the robotic arm in synchronisation to ensure continuous and effective extraction. Through specially sized pipes, the fume laden air is conveyed to the Finpol HZ filter unit: inside, there are 12 high-efficiency filtering cartridges, which retain the solid particles and gaseous contaminants present in the air flow.
The filtered and purified air is then expelled into the atmosphere through a 600 mm diameter chimney, complete with flow equaliser, silencer and windproofing terminal, which are essential elements for reducing noise and improving the dispersion of the treated air.
The extraction of the system installed on the robot is powered by an 11 kW DT centrifugal fan, placed in a soundproofing box to minimise noise emissions inside the workshop.
The system has also been designed to connect a second welding robot, allowing the company to easily expand its production capacity without complex structural interventions.
Management of the extraction system on robot
The extraction system is started and stopped via an electrical panel with a pressure transducer and automatic inverter, which can adjust the fan speed according to actual operating requirements, optimising energy consumption.
The system is also equipped with an electronic control unit that manages the automatic cleaning of the filtering cartridges: mounted on board the Finpol HZ and connected to the company’s pneumatic system, it activates the cleaning of the cartridges by means of counter-current compressed air jets.
When the cartridges need to be replaced because they are exhausted, a special indicator light comes on on the system’s electrical panel, allowing for effective and timely maintenance to be carried out only when necessary.
Specialists in efficient extraction systems
This welding fume extraction system is a comprehensive and efficient solution that combines performance, safety and energy efficiency, significantly improving working conditions and the company’s production capacity.
