Neat oil extraction system on lathe
Oil and emulsion mists are pollutants that are generated within companies that use coolants on machine tools, such as lathes and CNC machines. These mists, if inhaled by operators, can be harmful to health and therefore need to be extracted and filtered by appropriate equipment.
A leading manufacturer of multifunctional valves, in the province of Reggio Emilia, contacted us to design and install a neat oil extraction system for their lathes.
How the neat oil extraction system works
The system consists of two oil mist filtering units and two 18.5 kW centrifugal fans: this is to ensure suction on 34 neat oil lathes through suitably dimensioned inles. In addition, we have installed neat oil recovery cylinders at the oil mists extraction inlets: these cyclinders optimise the suction process by removing excess oil suspended in the air and relieving the filtration task of the filter units.
The two DT centrifugal fans, positioned inside soundproofing boxes, extract the neat oil-laden air and bring it into the two Airsol Oil filter units model AS8/O. Here, air is separated from oil mists through three filtering stages: 8 droplet separators, 8 metal pre-filters and 8 high-efficiency Compact filters.
Moreover, thanks to the use of special digital pressure gauges, a warning is displayed on the system’s control panel when the filters are clogged and the Airsol Oil needs maintenance: this ensures both the safety of the working environment and the efficiency of the extraction system and its durability.
For this particular plant, we have designed a bypass system with electropneumatic dampers, which guarantees the continuous discharge of the filtered oil from the Airsol Oil units: on the HMI panel of the control panel, in fact, it is possible to set time slots in which the oil discharge takes place automatically, alternately from one filtering unit to another. The collected oil is discharged into special bins placed under the Airsol Oil units, which can be easily emptied by the operators.
The purified air is then discharged into the atmosphere through the two Ø 750 mm chimneys, which are equipped with silencers and windproofing terminals.
System management and energy saving
The start-up and shutdown of the neat oil extraction system is controlled by a control panel with an automatic inverter: this is able to modulate the use of energy according to the actual need of the system, reducing consumption and saving electricity.
In addition, the control panel features a touch screen HMI panel, which allows settings and system functions to be managed both locally and remotely.
