Oil mist extraction with electrostatic filter units
In this article, we present a recent supply of GG SMOG electrostatic filter units for the extraction of oil mists that we have constructed for one of our Polish business partners, who is specialized in the construction of industrial production lines.
How does an electrostatic filter for oil mists work?
Our GG SMOG electrostatic filters are designed to treat air polluted by fumes and oil mists, typical of production environments involving mechanical processing, CNC machining and turning.
Each filter unit consists of a painted carbon sheet structure, inside which are inserted electrostatic cells subjected to electrical voltage. The contaminated air is extracted by a centrifugal fan, sized according to the required flow rate.
The filtering principle consists of electrically charging the incoming air particles and capturing the pollutants using a system of ground plates.
The air laden with oil mists enters GG SMOG and passes through a mechanical aluminium alloy prefilter, which initially traps the coarsest pollutant particles. The air then reaches an ionizing cell with a voltage of 12,000 V, in which the polluting particles are charged by an electrostatic field: the next collecting cell, with an output voltage of 6,000 V, has the task of capturing these particles. Finally, an additional aluminium alloy filter, located at the outlet, ensures uniformity across the entire surface of the cell.
The electrostatic field required for the process is generated by a high-voltage transformer.

Foreign supply of electrostatic filter units
For this international project, the five electrostatic filters were all equipped with an additional filtering stage with an H13 absolute filter, added at the outlet, to ensure extremely high air filtration before it is released back into the working environment.
The suction is generated by our DT centrifugal fans, which come in three different sizes:
- 4 kW DTE402 model;
- 7,5 kW DTM454;
- 15 kW DTE731.
Based on the customer’s production requirements, we have created the following GG SMOG models for this supply:
- No. 2 GGS20-T/VENT-1, consisting of No. 4 prefilters, No. 4 ionizing cells, No. 4 collecting cells and No. 4 post-filters;
- No. 2 GGS40-T/VENT-4, consisting of No. 8 prefilters, No. 8 ionizing cells, No. 8 collecting cells and No. 8 post-filters;
- No. 1 GGS100/VENT, consisting of No. 10 prefilters, No. 10 ionizing cells, No. 10 collecting cells and No. 10 post-filters.
Each electrostatic filter is equipped with a main electrical panel with automatic inverter for starting and stopping the suction system, and a sub-panel with interlocks for opening the doors of the filtering cells.
Customized electrostatic solutions for industrial extraction
Electrostatic filtration is an effective and safe technology for treating air contaminated by oil mists, processing fumes and micro-particles. Thanks to GG SMOG systems, GGE offers reliable solutions to improve air quality in production environments, increasing operator comfort and safety.
