Suction system on Costa sanding machine: metal dust filtration

The dust extraction system described here has been designed and engineered to serve a Costa sanding machine. The client company, based in Reggio Emilia, is specialized in the processing of stainless steel and special alloy sheets.
The plant configuration includes a high-efficiency system, capable of ensuring effective extraction and filtration of the dust generated during the sanding processes.

Direct extraction of metal dust from the sanding machine

The system is equipped with three Ø 150 mm suction inlets, located directly on the Costa sanding machine structure. These inlets allow metal dust to be captured directly at the point where it is generated, preventing it from dispersing into the environment and ensuring high efficiency in particle interception.

The extracted air flow is initially conveyed to a Red Cyclone spark trap mod. RED/CY4, which protects the filtering system from any incandescent particles or coarse materials, improving the overall safety of the system.

High-performance filter unit with self-cleaning system

The air is then treated inside the Finpol HZ cartridge filter unit, model HZNL12, equipped with 12 high-efficiency filtering cartridges.
The filter unit is equipped with a digital control unit for automatic cartridge cleaning, which is carried out using timed compressed air jets: these cause the dust particles to fall into the collection bin at the base, leaving the filtering fabric of the cartridges clean. This system allows the filter to remain operational at all times and reduces maintenance requirements.

The suction required for the system to operate is generated by a 15 kW DT centrifugal fan, located in a soundproofing box on the top of the filter. This configuration ensures quiet operation and reduces noise impact on the surrounding environment.

Once filtered, the air is expelled into the atmosphere through a Ø 600 mm chimney, ensuring adequate dispersion in accordance with the emission limits set by current regulations.
